Charles Michel Diehl was born on July 4, 1859, in Strasbourg. French Byzantinist.
1899-1934 - Professor at the Sorbonne. In 1910 Diehl became a member of the French Academy of Inscriptions. He studied Byzantine archaeology and art history, the history of administrative organization, and political history. He was an outstanding French scholar known for his works in Byzantine history and art.
Charles Michel Diehl died in 1944 in Paris.
His last research “The main problems of Byzantine history” (translated into Russian in 1943) represents his academic testament.
